Occupy Wall Street - A Movement Different From the Rest

Hi everybody, sorry it’s been a while. This really isn’t an Asian American topic, I just felt like blogging. Life has been good guys, been super busy in LA. One day this blog/twitter will return in some form. Thanks everybody who’ still reading. I just felt like blogging tonight. I honestly do miss you guys as readers and the small community that this was creating, I was simply too busy these days to work on this blog/twitter.

There’s a lot of talk about Occupy Wall Street and how it’s a useless and aimless movement. The big question has been, “what do you guys really want?” And that’s our problem, we’ve been looking at Occupy Wall Street like we have other movements – we compare it to what happened in Egypt – Iran – other countries where they were upset with who was in power and wanted that leader out. It’s not that simple in America, can I challenge you that it’s probably harder to take down Wall Street and it’s fellow 1%ers who control (35% of this country’s wealth) than it is to take down Gadafi? Or Mubarak. Why is that? Because it hasn’t happened yet.

Occupy Wall Street isn’t a protest. In its simplest form -- it is a movement born out of desperation -- not injustice. I very sure that 90% of the OCCUPY Wall STREET protestors did not leave their job so they could already protest, my belief is that they were already probably unemployed.

The Occupy Wall Street protestors are desperate. They’re living in a country that’s no longer taking care of them, that won’t give them healthcare, that has no jobs for them, and basically has nothing to offer. So they have two options, stay at home or come together and do something.

And do something is what they’re doing. They’re desperate. Occupy Wall Street is a cry for help. Occupy Wall Street doesn’t have demands because they don’t know what to ask for. They don’t know how to make the economy more equal, they’re not economists, they don’t have charts and a solution to our problem. But they do know one thing, this country’s wealth distribution is only getting more inequitable and 99% of this country will get poorer and poorer and lose more and more power.

Occupy Wall Street is simply saying one thing: what’s going on right now, it can’t keep going, it has to stop. Somebody, please do something because we don’t know how to stop it and we know it’s only getting worse.

New Love, it'll Work Out in the Summertime - Magnetic North Hip-Hop

In the Fall of 2009 I had just graduated from college and was itching to start over and reinvent myself in a big city. Having been enamored with New York since a young age, I was looking for a job/housing there when a friend informed that one of her mutual friends based in Queens was looking for a roommate.

These were the pieces of information that she provided me:
1. His name is Derek, and he is hot.
2. We'd be a good match because we're both musicians.
3. His hip-hop group has previously collaborated with WongFu, so if Phil Wang ever dropped by the apartment, I am obligated to tell him that she is single and available, or else suffer a terrible death at her hands - probably by castration. Or a public revelation of my lacking techniques in bed, as reported by my girlfriend (this is not true).
4. Phil and Derek are freaking hot.

Unfortunately, the living situation didn't exactly work out (no job, no money, crazy father, etc.) But I did get to check out his group - Magnetic North.

Composing of emcees Derek Kan and Theresa Vu, Magnetic North originally hailed from Berkeley, California, but currently operate out of Astoria, Queens. They released their self-titled debut album in 2006 with the single "Drift Away" garnering massive buzz. Last summer, they dropped "Home:Word" - a collaborative album with Taiyo Na that received widespread acclaim from critics, even having a single reaching #2 on Japan iTunes.

It also made me buckle at the knees and called my parents while crying to explain that I never meant to spend so much time behind closed doors as a teen.

The lead single on the album - "Summertime", is to me a perfect representation of the whole record: optimism & hope infused with the sunshine and feel good grooves of my favorite season. T-Vu's mesmerizing and exact technique on the mic is especially showcased on many of the tracks, and Derek's arrangements and production consistently blew me away.

This album made me regret never living with Derek. Who knows? If I had lived with him, I maybe could've been part of the magic behind the making of this album that was the soundtrack of 2010, and certainly will be for 2011.

DIM SUM Music Video!

I'm still working on the other article for over a month now but I just saw this and had to share it with you guys. If there's ever been a YouTuber who's subscriber base doesn't equal what I feel is his real following, it's AndrewJFung. His youtube page showcases a young and upcoming Asian Personality with everything from Jeremy Lin (Asian NBA rookie) to Rap videos about how awesome Asian Girls are. He was actually recently featured in the young online magazine The Other Asians

Now that Andrew Fung is in LA, it looks like he's hooked up with some pretty cool directors (Third Estate Media) and he presents to us, his coolest creation yet, A DIM SUM music video! That's right, check it. I think the best part is that there is a super hot girl in it, and she looks white (also awesome) so it looks like Andrew Fung is looking out for Asian Guys everywhere and trying to make us look as cool as possible. Here's hoping Andrew fed her more than a little DIM SUM. WINK. WINK. (get it guys?)

We took a Vow to Never Sleep - Asian Americans in the indie music scene

Hey readers, I'm back after a long hiatus.

Moving to a new city is really stressful and extremely busy. I see that Lionel and APA went a little crazy in my absence. My apologies - usually I'm the level-headed guy that keeps the group together and out of trouble. I'm one that pulls Lionel out of strip clubs before he gets on the pole, I'm the one that consistently keeps APA from going back to the local high school at 2:30 pm (he tricked me twice by saying he was going to his grandmother's funeral. It did not work the third time), and I'm ALWAYS the one that has to bail ImSoChinese out after he gets arrested for soliciting INSIDE THE POLICE STATION.

You can understand why I needed to take a break. Either way, I'm back now to talk about Asian Americans in the music business. By now, everyone knows that multi-Grammy winning band Linkin Park has Mike Shinoda on the mic and Joe Hanh on the turntables, but here are a few lesser-known bands with Asian-American members that you really need to check out.

1. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

New York indie bands are a dime a dozen (especially in BK, where I also play in an indie band). But TPOBPAH really set themselves apart with their walls of noise and earnest unison in their pop-affected rock anthems. Keyboardist Peggy Wang contributes with both synth layering and vocals.

They just released their sophomore effort - Belong, and its title track/first single was all I listened to for the month of January. The song really reminded me of everything I loved about the Smashing Pumpkins (James Iha!), and I told everyone I knew to listen.

2. Little Dragon

Sweden's Little Dragon was originally named after singer Yukimi Nagano's tendency to suddenly burst into temper during recording sessions - much like a dragon.

They effortlessly blend atmospheres and paint sonic landscapes that are perfect for the days where you just want to sit alone and escape from life for a bit.

They were recently featured on Gorillaz's Plastic Beach - on the tracks "To Binge" and "Empire Ants", which, in my opinion, was by far the strongest track on the album.

3. The Morning Benders

Hailing from California, their sound is often infused with sunny optimism, even when the lyrical content is describing tragic heartbreaks and irrevocable loss. I honestly believe that they are one of the best young indie pop bands around, and when people ask me to describe indie pop as a genre, they are one of the few bands I usually recommend (with the other ones being Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Jr.)

4. Asobi Seksu

I really enjoy dream pop as a whole, and Asobi Seksu are no exception. Their sound, similar to the Stars and Bloc Party, is heavily influenced by shoegaze and never fails to invoke in me a sense of adventure and beauty of the city nightlife.

Yuki Chikudate's breathy delivery always assures me that tonight will be a good night.

5. The Go! Team

The Go! Team was originally the solo project of Ian Partan, but has since expended into a sextet, including
Chi Fukami Taylor and Kaori Tsuchida on drums and guitar/piano, respectively.

Their music is schizophrenic in the best way, and is guaranteed to get stuck in your head for days after just one listen.

For example, their 2004 single "The Power Is On!" was recently used in a NFL commercial - try to listen to it and not nod along, I dare you.

Desperate White Nerds Unite: The Story of CarlosDouh and TrueHeart101

I was surfing YouTube looking for some upcoming Asian Artists to promote on this blog when I found this abomination of a video instead.

If you are going to be racist, I guess "Slant Your Eyes" is better than "Shrink Your Dicks."

Allow me to introduce you to the two guys who are using a double-headed dildo at the :20 second mark.

Have you guys heard of Carlos Vidal aka CarlosDouh from YouTube? Probably not. He is a non-Asian guy based in Vancouver who does videos about Cantonese culture and language. His Cantonese is surprisingly good for being a non-native speaker. He looks like a mixed Latino and Caucasian guy. I am not sure of his racial background, but he does remind me of the Latino kid from “Modern Family.”


Carlos's passion for Chinese food might beat out his passion for Chinese girls.

When Carlos does his Kung Fu pose, there is more Chris Farley and less Bruce Lee.

The other guy in the video is Adam Sadler aka TrueHeart101 who does the same shtick but with Korean culture and language. He lived in Korea for a few years. Don't hold me to it, but I heard he had to leave Korea because of child molestation accusations (yuck) and elderly sexual abuse (double yuck). I am just kidding of course. I just like to stereotype single white males as child predators and rapists. You know, the same way they stereotyped us as rice eating, ninja, slanty eyed asians. (Did you see the video!?!?)


Watch out, Korean girls! This white oppa's Korean is so bad that when you say, "Hajima! (Stop it!)" Adam hears, "Kajima! (Don't leave!)" You have been warned!

Here are two videos where Carlos and Adam compete to see who has the least amount of male hormones.

First step to being more Asian, Carlos: Lose weight.

Adam should be punished for this video by being forced to become a comfort woman for Japanese soldiers.

The man with the least amount of male hormones is...Carlos! Now for the punishment.

Carlos, you are the bottom. Adam, you are the top.

There is nothing wrong with having genuine interest in another culture. Many problems are caused by the lack of understanding and respect of other cultures. Consequently I hate to bash Carlos and Adam for being interested in Asian culture, but what pushes these individuals away from their culture and then draws them to our culture?

Carlos and Adam are not unique. They remind me of the stereotypical guys who are in your Asian language class and your Asian student organization. They would be the ones who would surprise you by being there because 95% of the other people in the class or club would be Asian. These guys would usually be friendly and talkative. Yet, something was off about them. They were always at least a little bit awkward and weird.

This is how most of us feel when guys like Carlos and Adam come creeping around.

They didn’t fit the mold of football captains or homecoming kings. Instead, they were dorks, geeks, and nerds growing up. The years of being losers eventually drove them to our culture. The difficulty of being not accepted and being isolated pushes them to search for greener pastures. Damn it! Why are we getting the social rejects like Carlos and Adam?

They need to be called out for what they are. Can't Carlos and Adam see dat, yo?

Add on the fact that they had come out of a vagina and have not gone back in one since, and then you have Carlos showing at Chinese club. At best, these guys have had only sexual experience with an Asian girl. Most likely, they would have to list their right hands as their sole “Sexual Partner” if they ever went to Planned Parenthood for a STD test.

Worse yet, they now use YouTube to try to gain fame and popularity. Get ready for more abortions like the video below, and I really hate abortions because I am pro-life.

Part 2 gets sadder because two Asian guys degrade themselves by joining in. Carlos, I am glad that your Cantonese is so good that you can translate and tell us that the two of them are arguing about who has more slanted eyes. You know our people well. I am surprised Carlos didn't translate them arguing about who has a smaller penis. I am offended by how racist this video is, but I am even more offended on a comedic level because the video is just plain bad.

I am reminded of a saying I learned in history class, “Princes don’t emigrate.” Immigrants who came to America were always looking for better opportunities and better lives, otherwise why would they come here? Those who were rich, powerful, and successful stayed in their native countries. I feel the same way about these guys. They are immigrants to Asian culture.

If they had it good in their culture, then why jump ship and join us? Answer: Things just weren’t working out especially when you are talking about their love lives.

You had to learn how to pick up girls from Carlos? Wow. I guess it is true, "In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." I need some help too, Carlos! Will you teach me how to scrap at the bottom of the barrel?

When guys like Carlos and Adam come into our Asian clubs, groups, and classes and receive instant notice as something different and interesting. Instead of saying, “Wow, you know a lot of about our culture,” we should be giving these nerds the Ogre Welcome.

Which one is Carlos and which one is Adam? Sadly, I was the guy who Ogre dropped off the balcony.

I have nothing against these guys coming in and learning about our culture. They can date and marry our women too. The Asian girls we lose to nerds like Carlos and Adam are usually the least desirable and least attractive from our group.

A good example of this is Facebook creator/nerd Mark Zuckerberg. Just take a look at his Asian girlfriend Priscilla Chan. Zuckerberg is a man in love because he can't be about the looks and body with that girl.


What the Zuck? Didn't you put her picture in FaceMash to see where she ranked? The creator of Facebook doesn't care about his girlfriend's face? Who would of thought?

Mark, we need to have a talk. Last I checked, you are worth billions and that is what you fuck in your mansion? I know she is your college sweetheart, but I can't believe you still haven't nexted her. Time for an upgrade, my friend.

I do have to say Priscilla scored big time. Priscilla, you should keep your billionaire happy with some help from the Makeup Gurus though. Check out our article on them.

Arden, please wait to use indoor plumbing. This is a huge turnoff.

So why am I writing an article about these guys? Just to make fun of them? Come on, I am not that much of jerk. I am a Christian, for God's sake.

I am just interested in human psychology and understanding what people’s motivations are. It is important to see some of these guys beyond the exterior. There is a reason that they are channeling so much energy towards learning about another culture. Besides looking at these guys as open minded, linguistically talented, and unique, you should wonder what motivates these guys to be so dedicated to learning and assimilating to another culture.

Look at the white guys who are hanging around you or your Asian friends. I am willing to bet they belong in my stereotype of Carlos and Adam. Notice to Asian males: watch out because they are there to drink your milkshake.

Carlos and Adam, you are welcome. You just got the official AATV bump!

Sidenote: Have you readers been watching "Outsourced" on NBC Thursday Nights? I think the show has found its rhythm lately.

K-Town - ASIAN JERSEY SHORE to Premiere on the E! Network!!!!

I was at the San Francisco Asian American film festival this past weekend and was meeting with a lot of cool people when somebody (i don't want to get him in trouble so he will remain as an unnamed source) let it slip that the Korea Town show is going to be on the E Network! (see, this is why I have to remain anonymous or people won't slip like this)
For those of you who don't know, K-Town is pretty much Jersey Shore but with Asian People. They couldn't get anyone to make it so they shot the whole thing themself and luickly, someone bought it. Also, I think Tyrese exec produced it so it HAS to be good. [/end sarcasm]

I smell a cross over episode where the Kardashians visit K-Town

Yes, the same network that plays "crap" like Keeping Up with the Kardashians and the million spin offs of the lovely ladies from the Playboy show Girls Next Door will be boldly featuring our Korea Town heroes!

I can't wait!
[insert sarcasm]

But yes, there it goes, a call was not made to E to confirm because I don't care. But yes! There it is! Unconfirmed report that K-Town will be on the E Network, let's hope I'm right or I will lose all journalistic credibility and will no longer be able to write about make up gurus and Arden Cho.

Now let's see how many bad K-town jokes I can make with this one picture in the caption section.

I prefer the Asians are smart stereotype over Asians are fake "black people" spouting the "n-word" to pretend "to be hard" But maybe I'm old fashioned. But remember, if the show is actually on E! The MakeUp Gurus - More than Just "Pretty Asian Girls"

So when I brought it up in our last meeting that I wanted to write about the make up gurus. My editor was less than pleased. Here's what happened.

Editor: "Wait wait wait wait, you want to write an article about the Make Up Gurus? How can you! You're our best writer " (He may or may not have said the last part)
Me: HELL YA! THEY FINE!!

Editor: Are you sure you're just not trying to get people to read your posts because you filled it with pictures of pretty Asian girls?
Me: HOW DARE YOU!

And that's why I wrote this. Last week, I was watching one of the Bravo dating shows and they had this grimey white dude telling the matchmaker (the matchmaker girls for him) that he wants Asian Girls cuz they're pretty and know who's boss. WHAT THE FUCK! Who SAYS DAT SHIT!

So when my editor referred to the MakeUp Gurus as just pretty Asian Girls, I knew then that HE TOO had stereotyped them AND HE RUNS THIS BLOG!! (hopefully not for long) And here's my point, the Asian American MAKE UP GURUS are a very important part of the Asian American Movement because they're our best tool in the fight against yellow fever, making asian girls "real people" and finally, bringing in a new audience for our movement. (Yes, I'm writing this like an academic high school essay)

But wait, you're not familiar with the MakeUp Gurus? How is that possible?! But it doesn't matter, let me give you a quick rundown of some of my favorites. Favorites is a weird word. Pretty much, these are all the makeup gurus I know because Social Media Master and blogger Benny Luo (check his site here) likes to hang out in their BlogTV chats. If you're already familiar with these girls. SKIP AHEAD!

Steve Terada from Quest Crew, man I wish I could dance too

HollyAnn-Aeree (YouTube Channel) is probably the most popular of the three I'm going to talk about. With over 128k subscribers, she has a lot of people who anxiously wait for her MakeUp videos. She's Korean with adopted parents. She has lots of twitters, blogs and also has a shopping blog! I think the best part about Holly is the fact that she's dating an Asian Guy or at least this photo I found makes it seem like she is because it says, "my GF" in the caption. However, Holly, if you're newly single (God forbid) my talent of writing half witty blogs may not be as COOL as dancing on America's Best Dance Crew but it does mean I have more time to hang out (cuz I'm not travelling) and it also means I have a nicer house (because I live with my mom).

FrmHeadtoToe (Youtube Channel) Jen is a designer and freelance make up artist when she's not making videos. She's also Korean (man, these Koreans are good at makeup... I must marry one) She also has a really good outlook on what make up should be for. A quote from her page.
"Makeup should be used as a tool to express and to feel good about yourself, not as a mask to hide what you are afraid of."

I honestly thought FrmHeadToToe was better looking

That's a really positive message for all the little girls who watch her. My favorite part about her videos (some of her most popular ones) are when she takes Korean Pop Stars and recreates their look. Pretty much showing me that those Korean Pop girls I seem to love so much are actually creations of make up. Not only does this help young girls with their own image (knowing that these things they idolize are only creations) It also MAKES ME feel better about my life because it gives me hope that I can find a "normal" Korean girl in LA and then hire FrmHeadToToe to put a ton of make up on her so she can look like BOA. Sounds like a plan!

However, sadly, (for us as asian guys, not her, good for her for being happily married) Jen is married to a white guy. Here's the proof. (edit, picture removed)

Sigh. C'mon Asian guys, we dropped the ball on this one and let a good one get away. I'm going to find all of FrmHeadtoToe's asian ex-bfs and yell at them for not treating her better. But Good for you JEN because that White dude looks tall and you two can make very beautiful children.

"It was nice meeting you!!" and she added a FACE TOO (i tried to type the face out but I couldn't figure it out how) But basically this means that MszJackiechu and me are like best friends, practically dating if not for the fact that she already has a boyfriend and I respect relationships. Sorry Jackie. She's a 21yr old So-Cal girl who really likes to mix it up and is more than just a make up guru. She does lots of random vids too. If you look at her most viewed videos, none of them have to do with her make up, they're about her room, diet tips, her jean collection. Basically, MszJackieChu's viewers just like getting to know her. I'm also a super fan of MszJackieChu because I really like it when girls let their hair cover their face and this is exactly how MszJackieChu does her hair. Evidence in the picture..

Alright, enough about me writing creepily to these girls so here it is. THE THREE REASONS why the MAKEUP GURUS are important to the Asian AMERICAN MOVEMENT!

1) THEY ARE OUR BEST BET IN THE FIGHT AGAINST YELLOW FEVER BECAUSE THEY ARE REVEALING THE SECRETS OF ASIAN WOMEN and THUS BREAKING STEREOTYPES!

First off, don't get me wrong. If a white guy actually likes Asian culture and actually underSTANDS Asian culture, he should date an Asian girl. When I say Yellow Fever, I'm really referring to the guys who know nothing about ASIAN GIRLS ( *cough* Ronnie from Jersey Shore *end cough*) But anyways, back to why these make up gurus are our best tool in the fight against Yellow Fever.

Have you ever heard of the magician's code? Pretty much, a magician goes up on stage and he does all these tricks and everybody just claps. The Magician's greatest trick is that he makes these tricks look effortless.

When a guy (who sees Asian Women as just really pretty things) checks out an Asian Girl, he's like... "Damn. She fine." And that's the point. It's almost like a MAGIC TRICK. When we see an Asian Girl that we think is hot, we don't say, "damn, she's fine, I wonder how much time she spends everyday putting on make up, I wonder what kind of base liner eye thing (i made that up) she uses to look this fine" No, we just assume girls wake up like that because I (me) wake up this good looking.

How do these videos break stereotypes? They show the amount of work that these poor asian girls put into looking good for us (or themselves). It's no longer a secret. A guy (perhaps white, probably white, sorry, I've lost too many GFs to white guys [I'm from the Midwest] so I'm biased) who may have preconceived notions of Asian Girls might have his mind blown. He'll be like, wow, these girls just don't wake up like this. This takes real effort.

I think the best example of this is FrmHeadtoToe's "2NE1 Can't Nobody youtube video". You can watch it but I took some screenshots to make my point. Now you'll see, the video starts off with the makeup already on. And WOW, boy does FrmHeadToToe look amazing.

Now to be honest, FrmHeadtoToe still looks PRETTY DAMN GOOD without the make up. She actually doesn't need it at all, but that "WOW, CHECK THAT OUT I MUST LEAVE MY WIFE, CROSS THE STREET AND RISK GETTING HIT BY A CAR IN ORDER TO LOOK CLOSER AT THAT GIRL" feeling is gone.

You can tell FrmHeadtoToe has A LOT of self confidence because she's not scared to show her face without the make up. (once again, she looks beautiful with the minimum amount on) but I know it makes most girls NERVOUS to be seen without the make up. But FrmHeadtoToe isn't scared. This is how she's breaking stereotypes - she's showing all the "guys" watching these videos that c'mon boys, we don't wake up like this, we put effort into it this... and thus revealing to the world that they are more than just pretty things that walk around. There's a whole other dimension than just the pretty face. Once you know how the magician does his trick, he's no longer just a magician, he's a person. The way that Asian Women are objectified in media and in the world is thus lessened by these make up guru vids because this is one of the few times in media where we get to see these gorgeous Asian girls without their make up. Any girl who feels she's not pretty enough because she sees all these well "made up girls" on TV should feel better because these make up gurus are showing that nobody looks like the girls on TV without some help. If I had a daughter, I'd make her watch make up videos non stop.

Many of my readers are Asian so we take it for granted that we see Asian Women as full people. When I was in Grad School, I was the only Asian Guy in the program and I'll be honest, it was one of the first times I had a whole group of white guy friends in my life. When we'd talk about women of other races, I was always surprised to see their perception of Asian Women. For most of them, not having had deep relationships with a lot of Asian Girls, they simply saw Asians girls as something they'd really WANT TO SMASH - because "they are so tiny." And that was it. It wasn't entirely their fault, many of them came from parts of the country that didn't have Asian people so all they had their entire life was what the media told them about Asian women. (I was like this with a irrational fear of Black Guys as a child since Canada didn't have a lot of black people). So for the first time, these vlogs are attaching an actual voice and personality to these "smashable tiny asian girls"

You can't objectify a young picture of a girl and her grandma

Even though all of these girls are makeup gurus. MszJackieChu is actually more a vlog/youtuber as well. By doing this, guys with Asian Fetish who watch these make up videos because they like Asian Girls and not for make up tips actually start to see a fully rounded person. Instead of just seeing a hot object that they objectify and check out at the mall, they see girls full of life, laughter, friends. Guys that are creeping out on these videos (yes like me - BUT IT WAS RESEARCH, I SWEAR MOM!) unintentionally get to know an Asian girl's personality. A really cool example of this is MszJackieCHU's "Room Tour" video (check it here) we can see her genuine love for her friends, her family, her passion. Yes, it's not super deep but that's not the point, we get to know MszJackieChu a little better and for some high school boy with Asian Fetish in a part of the country that has no Asian people, this might be his only POSITIVE image of an Asian girl portrayed in the media. GO JACKIE! (Holly also has a 2nd channel that is just vlogs as well so same deal).

3) They are bringing in a wider audience to the Asian American movement.

HollyAnnaERee has a HUGE subscriber base. With over 20,000 twitter followers and over a 120k Youtube subscribers, it is safe to say that Holly has fans who AREN'T ASIAN. That's right, she's crossed over and her fans include people who aren't Asian.

First off, this is a good thing because it means more benefits of the things seen above. As well as, it's created a new type of Asian American celebrity. HollyAnnaeRhee has people all around the world who follow her and are fans of what she's doing.

What this means that she can use "her fame" to promote other YouTube artists. If you watch the new JASON CHEN video (click here) it features HOLLY! Now when Holly told all of her followers on Youtube about the video. She introduced Jason Chen's music to a whole subscriber base that Jason might not usually be privy too (likewise Jason does the same for her) and this is why the MAKE UP GURUS are most important. Somebody who loves music has a good chance of eventually finding Jason Chen's music but somebody who's not that into music but LOVES make up tutorials may have NEVER found Jason Chen's music. When Holly promotes Jason, she's EXPANDING the amount of people who watch Asian American content and are thus growing the movement.

When the Makeup gurus start collaborating with non make up gurus, they are introducing other Asian American Artists to their viewers. These new viewers will include NON ASIAN AMERICANS. This is how a Movement grows because as artists promote for each other, they grow their fan base together. There are a lot of Holly fans who may have NEVER been exposed to Jason's music if not for Holly. That is so IMPORTANT to the Asian-American movement. If an Asian American singer like Jason Chen is going to become a huge star, he's going to need as many supporters as possible and Holly helped him do that! I'm PRETTY SURE Jason Chen had no reservations about working with Holly. I'm now considering a singing career so I can start
flying out Make Up gurus to be in my music videos too!

FINAL THOUGHTS

The make up gurus have found another way to attract viewers and they are just as important as the filmmakers (Ryan higa, Wong Fu, JK Films) and Musicians (Jason Chen, Kinna Grannis, Clara Chung). They're giving a voice and a personality to the "pretty Asian girl" and making themselves real people to the people who just stare at Asian Girls. They're expanding the Asian American audience and they've tapped into an audience that can't be found with traditional media (make up lovers). Thus, the MakeUp Gurus are an important part of our Asian American future.

So next time you see a make up guru and someone says " *scoff* who watches this crap." Grab them by the neck and make them read this article to remind them that a lot of people watch this and they are an important part of our growing community. Music and films have always existed, but makeup guru videos, this is a brand new ball game and thus a brand new audience to bring into the fold.

Hmm. Perhaps I should start the first MALE Make up Guru channel. How does that sound?

Defending - "Amy Chua - Tiger Mom" - Everybody CHILL OUT!

Amy Chua, a professor at Yale Law School, wrote a book called "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother".

In it she talks about her experiences raising her two daughters and how her own upbringing informed her parenting style.

Recently, the Wall Street Journal took an excerpt from the book and posted it online:

It's blown up. But not in a good way.

People call her a monster, some accuse her of child abuse, and she's even received some death threats.

Don't worry Amy, I will protect your daughters! I will take Sophia out for a
nice dinner, hold hands, then return her safe and sound, and that is all.

But it makes sense right?

Her kids weren't allowed to get anything below an A, or choose what their hobbies were, and once, when her daughter Lulu refused to practice piano, she threatened to sell her toys to the Salvation Army.

Too bad this wasn't the point of the book. At all.

Later on in the book, Lulu rebels. Amy is forced to choose between compromising her expectations of her daughter and actually losing her daughter. Amy chooses to pull back and let Lulu pursue tennis (Lulu's choice) instead of Music (Amy's choice).

So in effect Amy is saying that it's NOT ok to disrespect your kids' wishes. That while you should still push them towards their full potential, that you should do it gracefully and acknowledge their personal goals and desires.

But if she's not fully advocating her original strict approach, why write so much about how it improved the lives of her kids?

Because she realizes the best way to make a point is to start with the opposite argument and point out all the flaws.

Here's what I mean:

Which approach seemed more effective? Who seems more racist? The dragon that wouldn't sit next to an Albanian boy, or the guy that curb-stomped someone's face?

The same can be said of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino, or the reporter in District 9, and practically everyone in Crash.

But that's easy. Everyone agrees that racism is stupid. How about parenting?

In Finding Nemo, Marlin has his wife and all but one of his kids eaten by a jackass barricuda. Because of that he's terrified of the open ocean and way too overprotective of his son, Nemo. Feeling stifled, Nemo ventures out, only to be captured by fishermen. It takes a journey across the ocean for Marlin to realize that in order for Nemo to have a full life, he's got to let go a little.

Don't even try it dude, she's a lesbian.

Now imagine starting American History X after Edward Norton stops acting like a Nazi. You'd be watching a White guy folding clothes with a Black guy. Who cares?

And what if Marlin just gave up the search for his son because he's too scared. We'd all think he was a pussy.

You have to see the before and after pictures of these people in order to learn anything. And that's what Amy is showing us in this excerpt. Just the before picture.

It's a shame that everyone reporting on this book neglected to mention the after. It paints her as a tyrant and manipulates the discussion. Instead of what can we learn about parenting from a Yale Law Professor, it becomes: who are better moms, Western or Chinese? Which is a stupid, pointless argument.

But why would the journalists do this? We have two possibile explanations:

They are LAZY and didn't read the book, instead writing from the limited information presented in the Wall Street Journal excerpt.

They read the entire book but chose only to to report on the portion that would paint Chinese Parenting in the most unflattering light. Now why would they do that?

Hmmm...

It's a good thing no respectable news channels take this viewpoint. It's not like this was covered by CNN:

Lucky for us, we know that this is just the Before picture. We know we can infiltrate our biased news media corporations. Once we're inside, we can promote the unbiased truth in lieu of the stereotypical caricatures we're accustomed to. It should be a walk in the park. After all, we've been raised by Chinese Mothers.

As a devoted reader of AATV, I was honored when they allowed me to write an article where I could rant and hope that you stay with me.

This is a little late in the game, month-wise, but I thought I’d share some thoughts on an Asian horror remake I’ve had the misfortune of watching recently: Shutter (did I say month-wise? I meant year-wise).

What we have here is a classic tale of boy meets girl, boy meets girl’s craziness. Pretty typical setup seen in the likes of Audition, Misery, and Beauty and the Beast (singing and dancing with houseware… obviously batshit). But I digress.

Ben Shaw and Jane are a recently married couple who move to Tokyo because Ben landed a job there. While driving around one night, Jane hits a woman on the road, but there’s no body or any trace of an accident. What follows is a below average J-horror ghost story where not everyone is as they seem and the ghost turns out to be a woman that was wronged.

Here’s a fun fact: while it may be in the J-horror style, the original is actually a Thai film. So Shutter is a Thai horror film… transplanted to Japan… for… for an… American remake… hrgh… hold on… I’m having an aneurysm…

Not every Asian horror film is Japanese, Hollywood! In doing this, it narrows American views on Asian horror. Not all Asian horror films are Japanese, and not all of them involve the ghost of a dead woman.

The kicker is that the original film isn’t even credited. That’s right, check IMDB. Infuriating, roll your eyes, facepalming narrative elements aside, that’s a huge problem, Houston. Hollywood has become so lazy in ripping off... I mean remaking... foreign films that they’re not even giving credit. Here are some other issues.

"I'm sorry this movie makes your own vomit but you have to face reality, DAWSON'S CREEK IS OVER!"

Jane, who is obviously uncomfortable in a new country, doesn’t have any scenes where she deals with those anxieties. Hollywood wants to set this film in an Asian country yet doesn’t want to acknowledge the culture at all. Maybe they’re being culturally sensitive by putting on cultural blinders. They don’t have to acknowledge the culture because that’s not what this film is about. They just want to tell a good old fashioned ghost story, right? Sarcasm time. So that must be why rather than promoting the original–something they were obviously interested enough in to remake it–they would rather spend money and time on something that they don’t even acknowledge is a remake.

It’s as if they want to take Asian culture completely out of it. Remakes like these are the laziest kind of filmmaking. It’s what I like to call a “cultural vasectomy.” Studios want to impart some essence of the original film’s impact by giving us the remake, but in giving it their least, they end up chopping off what makes it potent. Stay away from our balls, Hollywood!

By having absolutely no explanation for the setting other than the plot device of Ben’s job, the characters begin sticking out worse than Hugh Hefner after a dose of Viagra. Particularly Megumi, the she-demon. She’s a clingy Asian female, a character that so obviously fits in the original Asian film because everyone is… Asian. But with the remake, things become a bit complicated.

SPOILER ALERT (you’re not going to watch the movie, read it anyway):

Megumi is actually good. The only problems she had were being a little too in love with Ben, and after her father father died, moving into full Kling-on mode. So what Ben decides to do is have his buddies rape her while he photographs the whole event so that if she were to speak out, he could use the photographs against her. Wait... what kind of logic is that? So if she says they raped her... then Ben brings out the photos, which explicitly show the rape. But sadly, she doesn’t come out with it and ends up killing herself. Hmm, there seems to be some metaphor for Asians in mainstream media here... nah, probably not.

Not only is Asian culture vasectomized, Asian women are demonized (literally, Megumi is a demon) and the general American population feels that much safer because, hey, these aren’t our (in the majority sense) women. So Hollywood is getting something right, there may be less misogyny (the protagonist in the film is female), but not necessarily for women in the ethnic minority. And like poor Gaston, we are forced to watch our Belles sing and dance with the fantastical houseware that is the empty content of some studio executive’s lack of imagination.

What’s depressing is that the film, although a critical failure, is still a commercial success, which ultimately means it’s a success. While Asian horror remakes may be dying down, when we go out to purchase that movie ticket, it should be more than just passive entertainment. Films are extremely democratic in letting the audience decide (just look at the wonders it’s done for Asian horror remakes). And now with the success of groups such as Far East Movement, Wong Fu Productions, etc. more outlets (whether it be blogs or digital media channels) are available for Asians to be heard. So should we continue to be like Megumi and keep silent or like Gaston as we watch our Belles devolve into madness (Beauty and The Beast was a tragedy, trust me, people)? Neither of those sound that great.

I’ll end this with a quote from Dennis Harvey, a Variety critic, discussing Shutter:

“By turning the story into one about Americans abroad, first-timer Luke Dawson's OK screenplay should have allowed Ochiai to comfortably reach new audiences while working primarily on home ground. (Prologue and epilogue are set in the U.S.) But pic's portrayal of Japan is glib and oddly Westernized, with a couple of significant Japanese characters that seem Japanese-American, sans explanation. Performers make too lightweight impressions, though they're not so much miscast as flatly handled.”

Even people inside the industry are scratching their heads. Let me get off my soapbox now. Who wants to step up?

Dan Choi, a Korean-American, is a former lieutenant who was kicked out of the US Army for coming out of the closet. Now, he is fighting the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy by re-enlisting. It is sad that a relatively progressive country like ours is still kicking out gays from the military. This is one issue where I am side with the homosexuals as long as they don’t go for my tasty backside. Why shouldn’t they be allowed to fight for their country? They should be allowed to kill Muslims just like any straight American man.

There needs to be more of a “Put up or shut up” mentality in our country where if you don’t want someone else to do something, then you do it. I would like a law where people who are against gays in the military need to either enlist or enlist their child. There should be something similar for those who are against abortions too. If you don’t want a woman to have an abortion, then you must adopt the child she gives birth to. Or you can let her have an abortion and shut up about it already. If you are in the military or have a child in the military, then you can fight against having gays in the military because you have a stake in it. The same applies with those people who have adopted children and are against abortions. Otherwise, shut the fuck up and stay out of issues that don’t directly affect you.

Hopefully the day will come soon when you gays will get what you want: To be armed with a rifle and a dildo to fight global terrorism.

In the past few weeks, a new "tumblr" website has really picked up some steam. It's called Asians Sleeping in the Library and it features Asian students sleeping in the library. (I sound stupid for having written that sentence) Now I know it's all in good fun and the fact that so many Asian students have embraced it has added to the fun but beneath it all, I fear that we are promoting and ever growing problem of subtle racism by loving this website. Damn Asian People! Are we that desperate for attention that we'lll promote a website that's essentially making fun of us!

Like seriously guys, we need to REALLY REALLY think hard about this. Now I know this website was not created to be racist or discriminatory as it's creator suggested...

What I'm going to show you below is that the world's level of racism (ie, what we consider racist for Asian people) is too high and when it becomes so hard to offend us, we let other people think it's ok to be racist to us. When I worked at VH1, they were filming a segment where they needed somebody to do some Kung Fu and guess what ALL the white people did, they looked at me and said, YOU, go do some Kung Fu for us. THEY WOULD DARE NOT LOOK at the black person and say, "hey, let's us film u eating fried chicken" but I guess, to an Asian person, they're not as scared.

All the site would show is pictures of Jewish people, even something as mundane as that, still feels a little bit odd, doesn't it? Like I didn't make any jew jokes here, but the whole room still got a little uncomfortable with this.

So there it is people, whenever we focus on one group and focus on one specific thing that they do, we create a stereotype and we make it awkward for all of us. I don't want an Asian Sleeping in the Library to be a fuckin' stereotype, I want an Asian to feel he CAN sleep in the library if he freakin wants without fear he'll end up on some crappy tumblr website. Asian people, stand up for yourself and don't sell ourselves short, we deserve better media exposure then some website that shows us passed out in a library.

Fast Five: How Asian-Americans should do It?

So the trailer for the new Fast and Furious movie just came out check out my reaction and the trailer after the jump.

I hope he hit it

So why am I covering this? For those of you who don't know, Fast Five is the fifth installment of the ever popular film franchise "The Fast and the Furious" and is directed by Asian American Director Justin Lin pictured here with Jordana Brewster who is not his girlfriend.

I know he hit it.

The film also features the very very handsome Asian American Actor Sung Kang who reprises the role of Han that he played in both Tokyo Drift and Fast and Furious (4th film). But I've already talked to much. Check out the trailer below and we'll talk some more.

So what did you guys think? It should be noted that the Fast and Furious Series is marketed heavily towards hispanic and latino audiences without regard for the Asian American audience. I'm not really sure why I just told you that. Anyways, the exciting part is that Sung Kang is reprising his role as HAN.

Now for those of you who haven't seen Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift [SPOILER ALERT]Han actually dies in a car crash in part 3 so what is he doing alive in part 5? Well, Han aka Sung Kang was also in part 4 meaning that part 4 was a prequel to part 3 and so is part 5. Why are they making so many prequels? I think it's mainly JUST TO KEEP HAN aka Sung Kang around and why would they do that? (Sung Kang's role in part 4 is very short where he says "I'm going to go check out Tokyo" and then dissapears) These films have been made prequels literally just so Justin Lin can bring an Asian Guy back into the mix. That is crazy! That is insane! That is also power. The entire Fast and Furious "universe" is being manipulated just so Justin Lin (the director) can bring back Sung Kang. It's not even like Sung Kang is super important to the film, check out the trailer, he always seems to be just chillin' in the back.

Don't feel bad, I missed it the first ten times too, there's actually an Asian guy somewhere in this bikini scene!

So after covering tons of YouTubers putting themselves on screen, I thought it was appropriate to look at a couple of guys who've made it through in the mainstream. So you might say, well, this isn't that big of a deal, Sung Kang might be barely in the film, he didn't even make the first poster! But this simply represents a more traditional avenue for Asian Americans to follow in media. When a director like Justin Lin has the power to change the direction of an entire film franchise SIMPLY so he can put his Asian Buddy in the film, we should take notice. This my friend, is progress.

Lucas Black > All Asian American Actors apparently

A little fact that most of you don't know is that when Justin Lin was hired to direct Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, he insisted that the main character be an Asian Guy if they could find the right actor. Sadly, Justin couldn't find the right actor AFTER the studio had ok'ed the fact that he could be Asian. They still actually went with Lucas Black after Justin couldn't find the right fit.

So what does this say. Obviously, I'm sure there are conflicting reports but the facts I stated above I actually heard from Justin Lin's mouth on a DVD commentary (i know, "accurate source"). Meaning that sadly, even though this role was prime and ready for an Asian American guy, Justin couldn't find somebody good enough that could carry the film. ( I say this cautiously)

If Asian Americans are going to show up in the mainstream, we not only need talented people representing us, we need hard working people. Acting/writing/directing is VERY VERY difficult task to MASTER and only true MASTERS end up in the Cineplex (yes, even the worst working director is probably better than the best wanna be director and being a good Actor is VERY VERY hard). I personally, as an Asian American Screen and TV writer, having gone to one of the most prestigious Film Schools in the country and as well as being very fortunate to receive mainstream attention with my work very soon after graduation know that even though I've met tons of Asian Americans who want to pursue acting/writing/directing, I've met less than three people who wanted to do those things, and was ready to put in the amount of YEARS (it took me 3 years before I got a meeting with an Agent and 2 more years after that till any Agent actually took my work seriously) it takes to get to a professional level. (both in terms of skill and networking)

Sung Kang was still sexy before he was famous

Justin Lin himself went to UCLA film school and graduated in 1995. It wasn't till 2002 that BETTER LUCK TOMMOROW was released (the film featured SUNG KANG also playing a character named Han, come to think about it, maybe he's the same guy) and wasn't till 2006 that Justin Lin got to direct Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, the film that would cement him as a studio director with the power to make change.

That's a lot of time for something with not a lot of guarantees. So what I'm saying folks is this, if you have the desire to do this, do it full force and go all the way because having Sung Kang in Fast Five meant that Justin Lin had to work years to get in a position to be able to demand Sung Kang be in the film. If we are going to change Hollywood, it's because we got to a level of talent and importance so high that Hollywood could no longer say "no" to putting Asian Americans in a film, even if it means disrupting an entire multi billion dollar film franchises' timeline in the process. Fast and Furious part four and five are prequels simply because the Asian American Director Justin Lin, wanted his buddy Sung Kang to be in the movie even though he already killed him off in part three. I am not saying that YouTube isn't as important or as good as this, I'm just saying, here is another way for Asian Americans to get to the front lines and we need just as many Asian Americans doing this route as we do Asian Americans representing us on YouTube.

It's Not ALL Hollywood's Fault - A look at The Warrior's Way

I am just as guilty as everybody else in this but so often on these blogs, we complain, complain, complain that Hollywood is holding us down and doesn't want to share our stories or put Asian American/Asian faces on the big screen.
We keep thinking that if they'd just put more Asian stars in movies, Hollywood would see that people will watch movies with Asian people. The Warrior's way is special because it isn't an Asian movie that was made in Korea or China and became a huge hit and then released here, this movie was made with the specific idea that it was for American audiences. Check out the trailer below, it'll help you better understand what the article's about!

Some of you might remember the "Sucker Punch" trailer movie post I showed a few weeks ago, check it here, but for those of you who do know, some of the stuff seems EERILY similar.

For those of you who did know, The Warrior's Way did open last week to a dismal...

3.1 million dollars

Kate Bosworth probably made more money than the movie did

For a little scale, the Harry Potter movie made 16.8 million dollars in it's THIRD WEEK. The budget for The Warrior's Way was 42 million dollars. That means, somebody lost A LOT OF money on this deal (or is going too).

So what does this all mean? Hollywood is a business and it needs to make money. losing 30+ million dollars isn't good business and whoever greenlit this film is probably fired.

It's too bad because this film actually did show a lot of progress for Asians in film. Sure, it was full of Ninjas and starred a protagonist who was the strong silent type (international Korean super star Dong-gun Jang) but hey, it had an Asian guy as a bad ass. The "strong silent type" was probably to limit his dialogue and more likely a favor to him (why make the guy battle through lines) as opposed to not letting him talk.

I think the best part of the trailer is when Geoffrey Rush says "Ninjas", perhaps had they renamed this movie Cowboys vs Ninjas, it would have made more money.

The movie also does something awesome. The very lovely Kate Bosworth is in the film and guess what, our Warrior gets a little kissy kissy action. HOLLA! Perhaps we have the Ryan Higa/Arden Cho kiss to thank for this. (don't worry, it's in the trailer, I'm not ruining the movie for you)

I hope he slips her the tongue

Yeah man, as much progress as this movie did, sadly nobody watched it. So what does this mean? I really don't know. Can we blame Hollywood for not making more movies like this if nobody's watching? It is a business, but then again, if they stop making these, we're doomed. Perhaps it has more to do with the movie than anything else but then, we have to think, what kind of movie starring an Asian Guy would we watch?

And for those thinking Ninja Assassasin, it did do much better than Warrior's Way but that wasn't a huge hit either. Perhaps we just need to move on from Ninjas?

So what do you think guys? Should we blame Hollywood a little less for trying to make a film starring us Asian people but still failing or should we challenge Hollywood more to really try to make a movie about us Asian Americans that DOESN'T INVOLVE NINJAS!

Steven Yeun - "The 'Asian Guy' on the Walking Dead

Hello folks, it's been a while! Every Sunday night in the barracks here at Fort Dix I sit my ass down in front of the television at 10PM to watch AMC's "The Walking Dead" and you should too! The Walking Dead is based on a long-running comic book series that's just as good, if not better, than the actual show. Steven Yeun stars as Glenn, an Asian who formerly dabbled as a pizza delivery boy (wait, how many of those do I know?) and saves the protagonist of the show from getting devoured by zombies when he wanders into Atlanta alone on a horse.

Who is Steven Yeun?
From the Detroit Free Press: "The 2001 Troy High School graduate, who studied psychology at Kalamazoo College, said he was prepping to apply for graduate schools when he started thinking about his theater classes and stage experience and the encouragement he received from peers and professors to pursue a career in the arts.

I delivered pizzas, not orange chicken

With the support of his parents, who own two beauty supply companies in metro Detroit, (no wonder he's so good looking) Yeun left Michigan for Chicago after graduating and landed in the Second City comedy troupe, where he honed his skills and toured. In the fall of 2009, after appearing in the critically acclaimed indie film 'My Name is Steve,' Yeun set his sights on Los Angeles. Once settled in, he quickly nabbed a guest spot on CBS's 'The Big Bang Theory.'" (and not as a chinese delivery boy either)

And that's basically been his acting career so far, but how awesome is that! He didn't do the typical Asian male thing (engineer, lawyer, doctor) and was able to jump most of the typical hurdles for Asian American celebs and break out on cable TV! Shit, I went to that high school too, but now I'm in the army because I was scared that one day, a real zombie apocalypse might happen and I wanted to be ready.

What the TV show hasn't gotten into yet (only six episodes of the first season and the plot diverges from the comic) is that Glenn is kind of a playa and hooks up with a girl, I guess it takes a zombie apocalypse for an Asian guy to hook up with a white girl, will AMC follow the comic's lead? Only time will tell! I mean, THEY BETTER! Or I will send some Zombies after the writers.

What you gonna do, date a zombie instead??? C'mon girl!

Again, watch "The Walking Dead" on AMC and support a brother! It's rare that a TV show lets an Asian Guy just be a normal guy as opposed to him having to play some kind of asian stereotype. Glenn is arguably one of the first characters on a tv show who's Asian who doesn't HAVE TO BE Asian. So ya! DOUBLE SUPPORT!

REVIEW: Agents of Secret Stuff by Ryan Higa and WongFu Productions

So people are probably wondering, wtf? You're reviewing a YOUTUBE video!?!?!? You going to start reviewing WongFu Weekend videos too?

I too would kill for her

Here's why we're doing this, this narrative film may arguably become the most watched Asian American Narrative film of all time. Think about it, Ryan Higa has 2 million subscribers and his videos easily break 3.5 million views if not 4 million views. If we look at that as "box office" that would be (12 dollars x 4 million views) a 50 million dollar grossing film.

Wait, 50 million dollar film? What the hell are you talking about? (as KassemG would probably say) If you combined the grosses of every important/major Asian American Film, we're talking Better Luck Tomorrow, Saving Face, The Motel, West 32nd, Red Doors, Finishing the Game, the total box office grosses would probably break 5 million dollars meaning that ten times as many people will see "Agents of Secret Stuff" than every other major Asian American production ever created. The future of Asian American media is going to happen online where the competition is actually equal and the winners are determined by the audiences, not hollywood executives.

REVIEW: [TONS OF SPOILERS, watch it here first]

BROMANCE

Ryan Higa plays Aden, a top secret agent trainee for the Agents of Secret Stuff (basically a good reason to do some A.S.S. jokes without getting flagged) who having spent his life as an A.S.S agent, must complete one final mission before he can become an official Agent of Secret Stuff. He must protect a nice piece of A.S.S (see what I did there? - i warned you about spoilers) in Taylor (played by the lovely Arden Cho in what feels like her coming out party to the world.. and a great one at that) from the Society of Not So Good Stuff (S.I.N.S).

Ryan infiltrates a high school and in a great fish out of water set up, must learn how to adjust to normal high school life while protecting Taylor. In a almost tragic way, Aden completely missed out on any childhood or social development and must live in endless paranoia that everybody is out to get him or Taylor. This leads to some great cameos by SMOSH and especially KassemG (who kills it in a role he was born to play, complete a.s.s.hole).

I actually thought the chemistry was so good between Ryan and KassemG that they really needed their own little web series together. What do you guys think?

Damn he's handsome... no homo

Things get interesting, Ryan reveals his true identity to Taylor and connects with her (over a great montage with the lovely voices of Kina Grannis and David Choi) but loses her when the S.I.N.S. kidnap her and when Aden is unable to defeat the S.I.N.S. agent (Quest Crew's D-Trix), Taylor's inner "A.S.S." agent powers come out and she kicks some real ass. The D-Trix thing was actually the one thing that was bothering me the whole time. Until this point, I kept saying to myself, D-Trix is way too damn good looking to be a nerd so I was quite happy when it was revealed he was a S.I.N.S. agent.

How about we just shake hands?

Aden and Taylor run back to try to make the homecoming dance but it's too late. However, it's not too late for what is arguably, the most important part of this film. Aden and Taylor KISS! Can you believe it, an Asian American male in a film actually gets the girl! That never happens! Do you guys remember Romeo Must Die? In the 2000 film starring Jet Li and Aaliyah, Jet Li has to kill like fifty million gangstas to save Aaliyah and does he get a kiss in the end? Hell no! He gets nothing! Because Hollywood doesn't think Asian guys like women. Well Hollywood, here's your proof! We are not all effeminate, we do like women!

Now that's what I call progress!!

I actually wasn't sure Ryan and Wong Fu had the guts to pull this off, but they did it and Asian American men all across the world are forever faithful. If one more Asian guy gets laid because of this, then it was all well worth it.

Overall, Ryan Higa is consistent in his hilarious YouTube tone. The film is funny, paced excellently, well edited, perfectly produced, (great music as well), well acted and a just an overall enjoyable film. This will be controversial to say but I truely feel that had Ryan Higa been white, and this film got over 4 million hits, I'm almost sure the Wong Fu/HigaTV phone would be ringing off the hook but sadly, I'm almost sure it isn't. I guess you have to be like Fred and get less viewers, subscribers and have more poorly produced videos to get a deal at Disney.

But I digress. Watching this video is the exact reason this blog exists. If Asian Americans are going to ever have a chance, it's going to be because of filmmakers like Ryan and Wong Fu who went and made it themselves. One day, when Ryan Higa is a leading man in multiplexes all across the world, we'll look back at Agents of Secret Stuff and realize, this is the moment when these things went from fun YouTube skits to real films.

Agents of Secret Stuff - Starring Ryan Higa and Arden Cho

It's out guys! That's right, Ryan Higa's new "Medium" film that he produced with Wong Fu Productions has just been released. I've just seen it and man it's awesome!

There was no Arden Cho ins Ryan's real Highschool

Ryan Higa plays Aiden, n A. S. S. (Association of Secret stuff) agent who must go undercover in a high school to protect the beautiful Taylor from being taken out by the "S.I.N.S" (the Society of not so good stuff)

It's goofy fun and a hell of a a lot of laughs and it features the GORGEOUS and ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL Arden Cho as Taylor. That's right, Ryan Higa, that lucky bastard spends the movie protecting a nice piece of A.S.S. (get it? hardy har har)

And for those fools who still don't know who Arden Cho is (like how could you not? we only post about her like ten times a day) here are some photos of Arden glaring at you for not knowing who she is. Glares are usually used by vampires to seduce you, sadly, I'm pretty sure Arden has no intention of seducing me.

I figured after the last post, we need to redeem this blog with some good music. So today I want to talk about two lovely Asian-American singer-songwriters that have been under the radar for a lot of people.

Priscilla Ahn

At 26, she still conveys such a nostalgia for more innocent days in her music. I love her easy, carefree vocal delivery, and her songwriting ability is nothing to take lightly. Her music puts me at ease, and her 2008 album - A Good Day, is definitely worth checking out, especially in the fall.

Rachael Yamagata

Rachael was actually singing in a funk band for years before she decided to pursue a solo career. Thank God she did, because now she experiments with numerous eclectic styles, and she is able to craft infectious tunes, no matter the genre.

For example, her soulful delivery on 1963 really takes an already catchy ditty up to another level, and her sorrowful croons on I Wish You Love conveys perfectly the feeling of loving someone so much that you would let them go if it meant their happiness. Once she found her sound, her music really took on a life on its own.

JERSEY SHORE ANGELINA - "I'm Hot" = WORST SONG EVER

So no, Angelina does not have ANY ASIAN in here and I would never want to put ANY ASIAN in her but seriously, sometimes you hear something so awful, you just have to blog about it. So check this out, she just released her "new single"called, "I'm hot" (no i'm not joking, it's actually called, I'm hot) and listen to it... it's so bad, you may want to just let it play while you read the rest of this song because I'm not sure you'll be able to sit through this song.

And before you hit play, I just want to say "I'm sorry."

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!!?!?

1) The INTRO
Ok so right away, it starts out awesome. This is actually my favorite part.

"Hey guys, it's Angelina, the girl from Staten Island is back and there's nothing you can do about it."

After playing this song five or six times so I could write about it, the song is now stuck in my head and Angelina is right, there's nothing I can do about it. Kill me now.

2) The BEAT

So, this beat is awful. It sounds like it was made on an old Dell Computer. Do any of you remember Ace of Base (They made the song "I saw the sign.") This beat actually sounds like Ace of Base took a shit and then put that shit in a box for ten years and then stored that piece of shit in a hot and damp place where mold grew on it over that ten year period and then they took it out and made this beat with it.

3) The AWFUL AUTOTUNE

Usually, Autotune can save horrible singing, but here, the AutoTune i think actually makes her sound worse. Listen carefully, i think the AutoTune GOES OFF TUNE in the first part of the song, like she was so bad, she SCREWED UP the AutoTune. Her rapping part is actually considerably better than her song because I think Angelina has the anger needed for rapping.

4) WHO THE FUCK IS SINGING WITH HER?

Like, the one thing that the record company HAD CONTROL of was co guy she was singing with. Like, Angelina has to be the star because it's her song, but seriously, they can pick anybody to pair her up with and they chose THIS DUDE? Who IS THIS DUDE? He doesn't even credit on thing song because he gets awesome lyrics like "Do it Angelina's way" , "It's Angelina - like you never seen her" (he has to change the "her" to make it rhyme with "Lina") "She's busting all the doors down in Hollywood, she's doing things that people thought she never couuuuld"

This guy actually sounds like a robot. Like, they couldn't find anybody to do a song so they created a robot that sounds like VINNY and made this fake robot Vinny sing. Actually, now that I think about it, it sounds like VANILLA ICE with AUTOTUNE. I actually think it's Vanilla Ice with Autotune. "Ice Ice Baby" to this Angelina song. How the defeated fall even lower.

5) The LYRICS

Angelina finishes the song by repeating the name of the song, "I'm Hot, "I'm hot" over and over again. I won't agree or disagree with this statement since I think commenting on how a girl actually looks is where I cross the line. So I'll leave it at that.

Thanks, Mr. APA, for putting out a great response to Arthur. Very impressive. Don’t mess with Mr APA because he will go gangster on you(in verbal or written form only). He covered a lot of what I wanted to say. Thanks, jerk! Now what do I write about?

Arthur’s attack: I didn’t do any research on Arden except for her reel.

My defense: Arthur, you are correct when you said I didn’t do much research about Arden. I am not a hardcore fan of hers. I don’t really care what she has to say or share in her Twitter or video blogs. I didn’t and don’t pretend to have in-depth knowledge of her life. But you obviously do. I invite you to write an article about Arden for our blog or your blog. You can do her the justice that I didn’t.

Arthur’s attack: I am “just another love sick loner on a laptop pretending to have some sort of knowledge about the entertainment industry.”

My defense: I am not “just another love sick loner.” I am THE love sick loner. All the other guys are just copying me. Get it right. In addition, I do work in the entertainment industry so I do have knowledge of how it works. That is why I am appalled by how things are playing out for Arden at this point.

We're not even fighting over her and it's all heated.

My defense: I rather not find out more about her. The more you learn about a woman, the more you look at them as more than just tits and ass. No thanks. That is a lesson your dad should have taught you.

Now with all the ugliness aside, there is enough hate within our community that I try not to add to it. Maybe it is because of my good, holy Christian upbringing. I don’t see the need to unfairly attack fellow Asians. The key word is “unfairly.” I think your heart was in the right place when you wrote your response, but your brain did not give you the capacity to comprehend my article. Your enthusiasm for the defense one of our own is commendable, however, you can lay down your sword because I am not the enemy.

She's totally worth all this fuss.

The article was supposed to be humorous with serious implications behind it. I was criticizing the Hollywood system for pigeonholing Asians to few roles and outdated stereotypes. It is a shame that a girl as hot as Arden can’t even get around it. Arden got it, you didn’t. It was impressed that a beautiful girl like Arden had the intelligence and sense of humor to enjoy the article. Beauty alone is not hard to find. The real prize is having beauty with the brains to match it. If worse comes to worst, then you settle for a decent-looking girl who will hold still long enough for you to stick it to her.

More importantly, this blog is here for our community to promote and protect those within it. Sometimes to help promote and protect our community I will be critical of those who represent us. But this was not the case with Arden’s article. I hope you continue to read our blog and comment because I love having this dialogue with our readers even those who are misguided. These are opportunities for us to learn and grow from each other.

Darren Criss who is half filipino (hence why we'll mention him on the site) dazzled the world last week with his rendition of Teenage Dream on the show GLEE.

Ever since the track came out last week, it's challenging Journey to be the number one selling GLEE track of all time. So now, what will they do with him.

I think this is awesome because Criss' character will become an awesome positive role model and portrayal of a LGBT character on TV. [Spoiler alert] Criss' character had to face the same bullying too and had to leave his original high school but he challenged Chris Colfer's character to stay in high school and be a light in the darkness. Very cool, congrats Darren Criss!

Ryan Higa has come up to a new awesome level. He's made his 2nd Far East Movement parody and this one is based off of Rocketeer! I know we have a lot of Far East Movement fans here so check it out! This video also features KevJumba and ARDEN CHO!!

This video is actually being released on both KevJumba's and Ryan Higa's channel. I think this is pretty awesome because it takes these YouTube collaborations to a new level. In the past, a collab would be a rare gift but these days, Ryan Higa, Wong Fu, and KevJumba (and Arden Cho for that matter) seem to be working together non stop. This is awesome because we are entering a new generation of Asians on Youtube and who knows, maybe a Hollywood exec will finally realize that the millions of fans that Ryan Higa has, will actually watch him on TV!

So here's to Ryan, and Kev, keep working together so I can see you on a slightly bigger screen than the youtube one!

Sucker Punch Trailer - Racist or Just Awesome

A lot of blogs only seem to bring up things when it's overly racist or if it pisses them off. Here at AsianAmericanTV, sometimes I just like to look at something and think about if it is racist or if it is just awesome. We'll call it, Video on Trial.

Today's Video on Trial is the trailer for SUCKER PUNCH. Why should I care about a movie called Sucker Punch? Because it's directed by the guy who made 300, that's right, the movie with all that yelling. This director also made "The Watchmen" so if you hated that movie, you may want to stop reading. Personally, I was at the Midnight showing for both films so I'm pretty pumped for this. Oh wait, I'm supposed to have journalistic bias. REWRITE: I am only slightly excited for this film. (I'm a liar)

The film is definitely taking the more stereotypical aspects from our culture, see this Samurai Sword. The guy wiping it, they didn't even show his freakin face! They are stealing our culture, the least they could do is show an ASIAN GUY in the movie but nope, the trailer is missing all Asian dudes. This happesn again when we're at the big Asian House. Nobody's there, not even an Asian Guy to clean up all that snow. I think Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill) already made this movie.

In case you didn't know they were Asian Robots, the director, Zach Snyder, put a Rice Hat on one

Now this part takes the cake, c'mon guys, look at this, it's three SAMURAI Robots, but wait, WHAT THE FUCK? Why is the center Samurai Robot wearing a fuckin' RICE HAT! Now that is some bullshit, the Rice Hat is not a good helmet defender. See, the other two Samurai Robots get REAL HELMETS? Why the fuck is the center/leader robot wearing a Rice Hat as his head protection? Did the center robot think it was cool looking? Is he doing it for fashion? Since WHEN DO ROBOTS care about how they look?!?!? FAIL!!! I hope in the movie, the Rice Hat robot gets killed first.

ALRIGHT. But remember, this is a TRIAL so I'll let the defense present it's case. What makes this movie JUST AWESOME instead of Racist.

C'mon guys, it's got fuckin awesome SAMURAI ROBOTS! That's freaking AWESOME! Who cares if it's super stereotypical and perhaps racist, I forgive it because it's GOT HUGE SAMURAI ROBOTS! Look at this, this girl has go to jump up Kung Fu style to avoid the huge gun to chop this huge robot in half. That's FREAKING COOL!! So ya, even though I called out the robots earlier, forgiveness is given because these robots are SWEET! And also this huge super robot isn't wearing a Rice Patty HAT!

Looks like we got all the races represented here. That's always a good thing. There's a black guy opening the door for a Russian or Italian guy who's followed by a white guy... oh wait, do you see it, all the way on the right is an ASIAN GIRL! She's hiding behind a door (idiot) but that's beside the point. Who is this scared Asian Girl?

Well if you haven't noticed (I'm sure you did), this Asian Girls is FIIINNEEE. She doesn't look as scared in this poster as she does in the movie but I'm sure she's just pretending to be scared so she can kill all the guys right after. If you haven't figured it out, this girl is Jamie Chung from the Real World/Samurai Girl/Shitty Dragon Ball movie, but DAMN, she looks good here.

Now, the only silly part of this poster is that the photographer forgot to tell Jamie that she put her PANTS ON BACKWARDS, but that's OK. I forgive the photographer, he might have been distracted by all that exploding stuff in the background.

And that's the end of this post? Once again, a woman has gotten in the way of what I was trying to do. So in the end, I say that this movie isn't racist and just AWESOME. I hope they put this in the movie commercial.

Why Rebecca Hazlewood is Too Good for Outsourced

What's good, billions of fans out there!

This is your boy j. taipei here, and I'm kicking off my blog career with an entire post on the most beautiful girl I've seen in a while - Rebecca Hazlewood.

She is currently the female lead in Outsourced, an NBC sitcom based on the premise of a white man (Ben Rappaport) having to manage an entire branch of wacky, zany Indians - IN INDIA! HILARIOUS! BECAUSE INDIANS IN INDIA WILL NO DOUBT BE CRAZY!

In fact, in NO WAY is the white guy EVER wrong! He's actually a saint because he teaches these Indians the error of their ways! What a good guy! What an outstanding patriot!

As you astute readers can probably sense from my tone (sarcastic, with a touch of sexy), the show, to me, is just a bit racist. So why do I keep coming back to it, week after week? The answer, my dear Watson, is elementary.

Rebecca Hazlewood, "Asha" in the show, plays the main love interest. Unfortunately, the director/writers insist on portraying her as brainless eye candy, and even though she (once) DARED to express a little displeasure in her (forced?) arranged marriage, her character is almost always reduced down to an airhead bimbo, laughing at stale jokes, cartoonishly hopping happily when she receives flowers, and fake-chatting animatedly with her female co-workers (some of whom, it seems like, were hired JUST for the scene) just so the male lead can lust after her longingly and see her as an object, merely to be "won".

Still, despite all of the above, every time she appears on camera, I can't help but smile a little.

Having to be an ignorant characterture of your own race should be a recognized and outlawed form of torture, not the accepted path to success in the media. Neither Rebecca nor her career deserves this ridiculous treatment. I read in an article (can't remember which now, I will cite later) that she responded to allegations of racism in the show by answering, along the lines of "the creators are actually negating those stereotypes by showing that Indians can get into various situations of life - just like other people can." I would love to get to talk to her one on one regarding this topic, because even if that really was the creator's intentions, the show still stinks of a holier-than-thou, white man's burden attitude.In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the next episode was just the white character using a megaphone and shouting "THIS IS NOT HOW YOU DO IT IN AMERICA!!!" into the Indian characters' ears.

I didn't start writing this article with the intentions of starting a dialogue on racial/gender stereotypes, but I guess I'm just getting a little worked up because she really is the perfect woman, and I'd gladly debate Lionel any day on Rebecca vs. Jessica Alba, and I'd win by a landslide, and I'd chop off Lionel's stupid, stupid hair.

It's not just that she has an amazing (Mr. APA: BANGIN'!) body, but her eyes contain more soul than all of the Pussycat Dolls put together (there are more than one, right? Right guys?) and she exudes both an impish mischievousness and an intimidating sophistication at the same time. A mature woman who is always down for a good time - what guy can resist that?

What a devastating combo.

In fact, I nearly fainted when she dressed up as Cleopatra for Halloween.It seriously was probably the best moment of October for me.

I don't care what my friends say. Cleopatra is sexy! Even if she's been dead for hundreds of years! So is Julie Andrews! and the Sound of Music was a great movie!

Let's start big with this response to Donny.

Wow, do you see this pretty white girl talking about how she ONLY DATES Asian males! That is AWESOME. Reading something like that makes life worth living. And yes I agree, Donny obviously lost to some slick Asian playas and took it out on our poor little blog. Thanks Tokyobratcammi for making my day!

I want to thank these two readers (women readers too!) for believing that I have the wit to take one a ONE LINE COMMENT that's spawned not one but two articles. Haha. And yes, x0x0preciosa, I hope I did kill him. This is also where I realized that a lot of our girls seem to be very pretty. After doing an article on accidental racism, I followed it up with an article about why Jessica Alba should date an Asian guy.

We were greeted by a nice little message from Donny that said.

Now that's just rude, isn't it? How are you going to attack an entire male species just because of the way they were born! That's messed up man, telling me to get over it? Did I attack whatever race you are? Did I say that Jessica Alba should not get with a white/black/other race guy? Did I discourage her from dating Cash Warren even though he is a no talent leech who won't marry her because he's scared what he's missing out on! That's right, I said it, Cash Warren, Jessica's bf who she met when he was the assistant TO THE director on Fantastic Four thinks HE CAN DO BETTER than Jessica Alba! I didn't bring that up at ALL.... whoops! All I said that is she should let an Asian guy impregnate her, not take her away from all men!

But anyways, I've gone off topic. Donny, from your little short comment, I can determine three things about you.

1) You are a purposeful racist, unlike my Ken Jeong article where I talked about the rise of accidental racism, there is nothing accidental about this, you saw a chance to make fun of Asian men and you did it. A cruel and crushing blow to the male asian psyche everywhere. How dare you say nobody wants to date an Asian man? Do you know what that will do to my confidence? Next time I talk to a girl, I will panic because I'll remember, "OH FUCK, DONNY TOLD ME NOBODY WANTS AN ASIAN MAN' and that will haunt me forever. I'll have to remember that you are a purposeful racist and are so threatened by my asian sexiness, you tried to make me think that no women want to sleep with me which would make it easier for your ugly ass to get more girls.

2) You are a coward. Who the hell goes on an Asian American blog and tells them that all Asian men are undesirable to women? Who WRITES THAT on the Internet? A coward I say! A coward who walks around the city seeing successful Asian men with beautiful Asian women and thinks, damn, I will never have the brains to impress that Asian Girls parents! I know that anger is building inside of you towards my people when you see how impressive my college degrees and resume full of large financial institutions are compared to your 9 to 5 job at a small to midsized company where you are constantly frustrated that you never pursued your true passion of whatever aristic talent you think you have. Trust me, if you were actually good at it, you would have done it.

3) You are an asshole. So go fuck yourself. Literally, please go masturbate and stop being so angry and uptight. Please release all that stress so you'll stop taking it out on Asian males. It is obvious this was your intention anyways, you wrote on our blog at 630 am on an article about Jessica Alba, clearly, you are were up late alone trying to find a picture to whack it too when you instead found my article and instead of whacking it, you just got mad at our blog.

So I see that your entire intention was to take Asian Men out of the dating pool. By trying to convince us that nobody wants us, you think that will take us out of the dating pool thus making it easier for you. Why? Because you, my friend, Donny, are threatened by us Asian Guys. You are threatened by the fact that we never had connections to get our awesome jobs and careers so when we are put in those awesome jobs that we earned, we more than excel and take the promotion you were hoping to get which thus makes us much more desirable to all the women.

Donny, you are concerned at how good an Asian Guy is at making love to a woman. Because as Asians, we are intellectual, we are more likely to research how to have better sex with a woman unlike your selfish ass who thinks he naturally knows how to do it. Trust me buddy, those girls stopped having sex with you because you sucked at it.

Finally, we're not assholes like you. Women who marry us, actually end up enjoying their life because we don't stay up late at night writing racist white things on white people blogs, we are in bed with our wife feeling sorry that guys like Donny have so much pent up racism, they have to find a third rate blog to express their feelings. haha. Why Jessica Alba needs to date an ASIAN GUY! (like me)

Now if you have followed this blog for a little while, you'll know that we are a fan of mixed couples. Mostly Asian guys and white girls. Now beyond just evening out the odds (trust me, there are a lot more asian girls dating white guys) there is a much better reason Asian guys need to date outside of their race.

We all know that mixed kids come out super hot. Take a look at super hottie Jessica Alba below if you need proof. Jessica here comes from a Mexican father and a mother of french and danish descent, basically, her mom was white.

Now Jessica Alba came out DAMN hot and we should definitely promote more Mexicans impregnating white women so we can have more Jessica Alba clones but what I want to say is, there are already a lot of latino men pro- creating with white women so we are pretty much covered on that.

What made Jessica Alba hot is that the mix of the two races dominant genes produce a hotter specimen like her. Now we know that there are already a lot of interracial kids but I feel that Asian Guys aren't really adding their mix into the gene pool! If hot women like this are already being created without the asian guy gene, how hot could women get if asian guys started adding their dominant genes to the gene pool of mix kids as well! This is why us Asian Guys have to get out their and start impregnating women. Now only will women be hotter, but it will also end racism.

How will it end racism? If everybody mixes together, we'll all look the same and nobody can really make fun of each other anymore. No need for a twenty page thesis, I said it all in one sentence.

But now we must get to the real point on why Jessica Alba specifically needs to be impregnated by an Asian guy. Please look at Exhibit A for proof.

The girl on the left is Sarah Hyland, she plays the eldest daughter in the hit TV show, Modern Family. The girl on the right is the very famous Vanessa Hudgens of High School Musical fame. Now notice how they both look pretty similar but Vanessa is just a little bit hotter. Sarah Hyland is a mix of Scottish, Irish, Dutch, and Welsh, (pretty much a bunch of white people) while Vanessa Hudgens is a mix of Irish, Fillipino, Native American, and CHINESE! That's right, there is a quite a bit of Asian in Vanessa Hudgens and look how she is slightly hotter than Sarah Hyland. Vanessa has benefited from the Asian male dominant genes that have been added to her gene pool giving her the slight edge over Sarah Hyland.

Now imagine if Jessica Alba allowed the dominant Asian Gene into HER BODY! How hot would the kid that comes from it be? I tried looking up a mix of an Asian, White, and Mexican but I couldn't find it. So Ms. Jessica Alba, you have a chance to make a super hottie child the likes of the world has never seen. PLEASE! All you have to do is to let an Asian guy impregnate you, just one! Here's one below...

Ken Jeong and Accidental Racism

So Asian American blogs like this tend to lean towards proving to the internet that the media is only portraying us as stereotypes/kung fu masters. Here at Asian American TV, we also like to focus on Asian portrayals when the media does it right! The TV show Community has been having an awesome season and last week's episode was very very excellent. It featured the Spanish teacher portrayed by Ken Jeong in a Halloween costume where he asked people, who do you think I am?

So let's play that game here! Look below and write who (what celebrity) do you think Ken Jeong is for Halloween?

If you said Michelle Kwan or Kristi Yamaguchi, you were wrong! And that was the point of Ken Jeong's costume, he was trying to show that because he was Asian, people would automatically think he was one of the Asian Figure Skaters since being Asian was apparently being part of his costume. Anybody who guessed Kristi or Michelle would immediately be called a racist. Turns out, Ken Jeong was actually Peggy Fleming.

Now I'm not really sure who Peggy Fleming is since I'm not as old as Ken but it's safe to say she's some kind of famous American figure skater but that's not the point here, how many of us watching on TV who are also Asian jumped to answer that Ken was either Michelle or Kristi. Why I'm bringing this up is because I wanted to show how well Community tackled what I would call today as accidental racism.

There's stuff built up on our brain that we don't realize. I don't think anybody who guessed Kristi or Michelle is a racist on purpose, it happened accidentally that nobody's mind jumped to Peggy Fleming. However, it makes you think, what else jumps to people's mind when they see an Asian Person. Would a boss not hire an Asian Guy just because he assumes the Asian Guy will be more timid? Would an Asian Guy/Girl get passed up for a promotion based on subconscious racism that really people can't help.

Next time you tense up when you see two tall African American kids walk towards you, think about the accidental racism you just continued. I'm going to say a bold statement and say that for most normal people in North America, full on racism is gone. But it's this subconscious racism that will linger for generations and ultimately, it's not till we have more shows like Community where Asian people play PEOPLE and not ASIAN CHARACTERS that this "accidental racism" will finally stop to dissipate. If all we see is black people mugging us or being criminals on TV, we will always jump there. If all we see on TV is Asian guys being nerdy or Asian girls being exotic, our minds will always jump there. In the end, to get rid of this accidental racism, we will need to stop seeing it on TV. It's getting a lot better but we're still have a long way to go.

Where's Ken Jeong!!?!?!

Sorry this wasn't super funny as usual but here at Asian American TV, we hope to get you thinking about things you normally wouldn't think about.

DAMMIT, I just realized something, Ken Jeong is dressed up as a freakin WOMAN! Dammit, Community, you gain five points for showing the accidental racism but you also lose ten points for making the poor guy dress up as a female and continuing to show Asian Males as less manly. There it is folks, accidental racism happened in the Community writer's room when they were trying to MAKE A POINT about Accidental Racism. HAHA!

Arthur saw our article about Arden, perhaps when she retweeted it and got very angry at us. I want to know that Asian American TV isn't scared to hide behind the things we say but if you're going to accuse us of something, at least get it right. First off, here's Arthur's comment that he wrote on the Arden article.

I'm almost sure Lionel's going to want to get his chance to reply too but I couldn't resist. First off, you called Lionel another love sick loner behind a laptop who fakes knowledge of the entertainment industry. Please get your insults right, he uses a DESKTOP.

Without going into details of who I am other than that I have a thorough knowledge of the entertainment industry, I'll let you know that we are well aware that Arden auditions for her roles and you know what happens when she gets them? THEY OFFER HER THE ROLE.

Here's an example,
     Casting agent: Hi, may I speak to Arden please?
     Arden Cho: Sure, this is she.
     Casting agent: Hi, we loved your audition and would like to OFFER YOU the role of ....

And I'm not sure about you, I don't have to sing for my supper, I pay for it with cash. If I was aware that one could simply "sing for his supper", I would do it because that would be much kinder to my wallet. (See what I did there? I used SARCASM, have you ever heard of it? Sarcasm is big tool on this blog because it's funny to say things with a certain level of subtext and humor) Now you can see that there is a lot of SARCASM on this post. At the end, when we list all the different "slutty" roles she could play, we were being funny, obviously you missed the joke and for that. Did you see how we used sarcasm when describing the CSI scene with the John Woo jokes? See, we weren't actually suggesting that CSI do a John Woo scene, we were being sarcastic again. I sincerely apologize that you missed it. Some of your friends might have made some sarcastic jokes at you, they weren't being mean, they were just playing around, you may want to apologize to them as well.

Finally! DID YOU READ THE DAMN ARTICLE? This article was about how a beautiful and talented actress like Arden is STUCK getting these roles. We never attacked Arden, we said, why can't a talented actress like this get real roles! It's not her fault, it's Hollywood's fault that they can't see her as anything more than an Asian Streotype. We're asking for change, poor Arden is stuck getting these roles because it's all that Hollywood can see her as! Arden Cho can play a role like Megan Fox in Transformers or Scarlett Johanssen in Iron Man 2 but sadly, Hollywood can't see her as more than an exotic piece of meat (hence our intro picture=subtext) and puts her in roles where she has to be the hot Asian girl where she has to play the streotypes because that's all Hollywood will let her do. We love Arden, we our great supporters of her and we just wish that someone as talented and gorgeous as her would get a real chance and not be forced to be a ethnic stereotype. She gets these roles because she's one of the best young Asian female actresses out there. If these are the best jobs that Hollywood can offer her, we're in a lot of trouble. HENCE THE ARTICLE. So next time, instead of making fun of us for "rubbing one out" to her reel, how about you get your hand way from your penis, stop staring at the pictures in the Arden articles and actually reading them for once.

Just saw an article about a new show on the Cartoon Network called “Tower Prep.” Teenagers with special powers find themselves trapped in a boarding school. It sounds like a poor man’s X-Men: First Class. Marvel called! They want their concept back!

Damn! Forget Dyana! Give me the white girl!

What caught my eye about this series is that there is a girl named Dyana Liu in it. I know she is only decent looking, but this girl stands out because she has brains. I checked her IMDB page, and it says that she graduated from UPenn with a degree in Economics and is a classical pianist. Not bad, not bad at all, baby.

The annoying part of her IMDB profile is that she lists herself as the descendant of the Han Dynasty emperor, Liu Bang. Are you kidding me? Who the fuck cares? That guy ruled in 256 BC. How the fuck would you know you’re his descendent? You can trace your lineage that far back, Dyana? I guess you didn’t think anyone would call you out about it and just take your word for it. I am calling you out right now. Prove it! Or get your agent or publicist to change your profile.

FM Week in REVIEW. (part 7)

(this is the 7th article we've written for Far East Movement week)

Nobody wanted to learn Chinese

So that's it. The week is over. What a great week it was, we looked at their success, we looked at how they got there, we looked at some early FM footage, we took an indepth look at Kev Nish and DJ Virman and finally, we declared why we need FM.

FM is an important part of our community, in a sense, they are our first pioneer into the Mainstream. What do I mean by that, when we look back at JIN, we see that JIN made it, in part, because he was Chinese. Watching a Chinese kid beat 7 black people on Freestyle Friday broke stereotypes and intrigued a nation. It got him a deal, but a big part of his early success was because he was Chinese and he wasn't afraid to hide it. Look at his first video, it was called "Learn Chinese."

Jin has gone on to a wonderful career in Asia so I'm not, by any means, calling him a failure. He laid the roots for the future and we have all benefited from it. However, what has made Far East Movement a true success is the fact that NONE of THEIR MUSIC is about them being Asian! This wasn't an Asian pride album, it was just great music. FM said it themselves that people are surprised to see that they are Asian when they show up to shows.

Unlike FM, Fifty probably owns a G6

What does that mean? Great music is colorless and stands on it's own two feet. A lot of Asian Blogs will pull the race card (well deserved) but I am not too proud to say when RACE card doesn't need to brought up. So in that, I say, congrats to FM on your early success and I know we covered you because we're an APA blog but I hope, somewhere else out there, someone did a whole week of articles on you because you were great musicians first, not because you were Asian.

I'd like to leave you with some proof that FM is our first Mainstream pioneer, with the brand new Like a G6 remix featuring FIFTY CENT. That's right, even Fifty wants to fly like a G6. Thank you everybody for joining us. It's been an honor sharing our opinions of FM with you.

Asian American Badasses: The 442nd Infantry Regiment

Asian Americans been changing the cultural landscape of America through the internet. Maybe we can help overcome the largely negative portrayal of Asian males and masculinity in the mainstream by focusing on real Asian-American badasses. These days it feels like we've been relegated to having natively-born actors here in the states being forced to learn their original language for some TV show like Heroes or Lost.

We'll start with a collective group of badasses, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team largely comprised of second-generation "Nisei" Japanese Americans during WWII.

You can read the details of their exploits on Wikipedia. The short of it is, during the Internment of their families and friends, Japanese Americans were willing to lay their lives on the line in combat to prove their loyalty to the United States, and had the combat awards to prove it:

- 8 Presidental Unit Citations
- 21 Medals of Honor
- 52 Distinguished Service Crosses
- 1 Distinguished Service Medal
- 560 Silver Stars
- 22 Legion of Merit Medals
- 15 Soldier's Medals
- 4000 Bronze Stars
- 9,486 Purple Hearts

One particular instance I want to call attention to, the story of Senator Daniel Inouye: His right arm got blown off while he was clutching a grenade, so he used his left hand to pry the grenade out of his still-clenched fist and killed the enemy that had been shooting at him. Let's see that in the next WWII-themed Call of Duty game!

Today the 442nd as a whole has been deactivated, but the 100th Infantry Battalion of the 442nd RCT, nicknamed the "Purple Heart Battalion" lives on as the only infantry unit in the entire Army Reserve. It's largely comprised of soldiers from Hawaii, Samoa, Guam, and our other Pacific island possessions. I had a two week stay in Ft Lewis, WA where I had the privilege of meeting a student and cadre members from the 100th, the student was a squared-away Samoan-American and went on to make the honor grad list. Coincidentally, there were more Asian soldiers that I saw over the two weeks of the Warrior Leader Course, than at both basic training and AIT, I guess we make for good NCO candidates? Unfortunately, he forgot some of the words to his battalion fight song so he had to relearn it and sing it for the instructors from his unit. I hadn't heard it before so I took the liberty of looking it up on Youtube:

"Four-Forty-Second Infantry— We're the boys of Hawai'i nei— We'll fight for you And the Red, White and Blue, And go to the front... And back to Honolulu-lulu. Fighting for dear old Uncle Sam Go for broke! HOOAH! We don't give a damn! We'll round up the Huns At the point of our guns, And vict'ry will be ours! GO FOR BROKE! FOUR-FOUR-TWO! GO FOR BROKE! FOUR-FOUR-TWO! And vict'ry will be ours!"

If you see a soldier sporting that patch (and it may be a rare occasion), recognize that he's wearing an important piece of Asian American history on his sleeve.

Why We Need Far East Movement(in a non-gay way)

Thanks to all the followers of AsianAmericanTV for making FM week so successful. We hope you have been enjoying our FM coverage.

Besides letting our followers and fans of FM get to know the group, we wanted to explain why we are pushing for FM. The love for their music and the respect for their hard work should be more than enough for us to support them; yet, it is more imperative that we support them because it will help further the presence of Asian Americans in all forms of entertainment. It may not seem like it, but it is important time for Asian Americans to get more media exposure to become mainstreamed and not seem so foreign. FM is a step forward in that regard especially in the music industry.

FM, as great as they are, is not going to be the end all or be all because that doesn’t exist. But they are an Asian American group who is helping to pave the way for others in our community. Aspiring Asian American musicians should look at them and realize success and popularity can happen in spite of their race. That is the great thing about entertainment because people will embrace great art, music, television or film regardless whom is behind it. But we do need the pioneers to lead the way so that our own community can see the possibilities. We have to have more of us are saying, “How are we going to make it?" Instead of the belief that we can't make it.

Other minority groups have had to deal with same problems when it comes to being accepted and valued in the mainstream. Early African American music was hijacked by people like Elvis and Bill Haley because mainstream America found it easier to accept white musicians over black ones. However that bias and racism was overcome because good music superseded race. Through the mutual appreciation of music, whites and blacks were able to come together. That just goes to show how powerful music can be, and the role it plays in our lives.

The bigger picture is that media and entertainment shape the minds of society for good and bad. Many times the way Asians are portrayed have been out of our hands. We couldn’t take control and ownership in the way we were represented because not enough of us were a part of the entertainment industry especially in positions of power. Being stereotyped as a minority group has been accepted for far too long, and it is vital we take responsibility for fighting those stereotypes. That is why for us at AsianAmericanTV we promote and support our fellow artists whether it is music, literature, television or film. It is time we start defining ourselves as opposed to being defined by others.

The Ladies Love Kev Nish, maybe it's the SHADES (Fm week part 5)

Kev Nish is a sexy sexy man. DJ Virman may have the 14 inch penis but any google search of Kev Nish will show endless pictures of Kev Nish with women professing their love for him.

Whether the boy is at the club or at church, girls be all over him. He can't keep them off of him. What are his secrets, well, look at the church picture, my boy is rocking the horizontal striped shirt with a grey jacket and he got TWO girls. See, men, fashion tells us not to wear horizontal shirts because it makes us look fatter but Kev Nish don't go to worry about that, the boy is in shape and his bold choice of red stripes and blue shirt impressed two ladies, one of whom seems to be in some sorority.

Another night, Kev Nish once again rocks the horizontal lines in a sweater showing his true fashion forward hipness because those sweaters are still hot now and this pic looks old. This girl with a tight green vest and big hoop ear rings seems to be very impressed with Kev Nish's hipness, here's hoping he hooked up with that one!

But then, Kev Nish wasn't done there, something changed and him and the rest of FM started putting on SUNGLASSES! Suddenly, realized Kev Nish he had discovered the true secret to being awesome which gave him access to a whole new set of women.

(I'm not saying the girls before aren't hot, cuz they are and I'd sure hit it, but c'mon guys, look) Kev Nish with shades is getting VERY VERY VERY fine women. And then what happen after? As soon as FM got shades, they hit number one. Now is this some Asian thing with us hiding our chinky eyes? I really hope it isn't but we can't help but all say, those FM guys do look super cool with shades on.

Perhaps the shades helped them put them over the top. Let's compare two photos.

Ok, yeah, I think the data shows us the facts, forget the music, it's all about the Shades. Stop practicing your music everybody, all you need is cool shades. Haha (if only it was that easy) Perhaps these are magical shades that helped store all the hardwork FM has done in the past five years so they could finally have the success they've earned! Damn man, I'm going to get myself a pair so I can get some hot white women too. Far East Movement Week - DJ VIRMAN, the missing piece?

I've been lucky enough to have watched Far East Movement grow from a simple beat and rap group to the techno pop rap sound it is today. After years of searching, they've finally found a truely unique sound for everybody. When I first saw the Like a G6 video, I was wondering one thing, who the hell is this fourth guy? Who was the lucky bastard to show up just in time for FM's coming out party!
Well everybody, that man is DJ VIRMAN.

Now I have to take back my statement about DJ VIRMAN joining the party just in time because who knows really what happened. Somewhere along the line, FM just figured out their sound and DJ VIRMAN was present at that time. Did he help inspire the rest of the group towards a new direction. Did adding somebody who really knew how to rock a crowd add to their music to make it even more crowd pleasing? All of these things are possible but something that Mr. Virman must brought to the table must have really impressed them if he let them join an already active Rap Group. Ultimately, we'll never know if DJ Virman was the missing piece that pushed FM all the way to the top but we know that he's an important part of that group and has contributed heavily to their success.

Now I'll post some fun facts about DJ Virman:
- He's actually the third DJ in his family (his other two brothers are very well known as well though they're probably a little jealous of him
- In a truely Asian sense, DJ Virman has a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Management that he got after he had already suceeded in the DJ game
- Virman is a combination of his mother and father's name (Manuel and Virgina)

- He has a 14 inch penis (even if this rumor is not true, I'm pretty sure Mr. Virman isn't going to deny it's validity)

If we don't know anything about DJ Virman, we at least know he's a fun guy. Check out this little gem of a video I found on Youtube. (I was originally going to show him doing a video game mix but you can just google that yourself) Also, this video is further proof of his 14 inch penis because only a man with that much confidence would walk into a hotel room full of hot girls in a towel. I'm sure one of them joined him in the shower and can confirm my rumor.

Far East Movement: A Triumph of Diligence

(AsianAmericanTV is doing a full week of feature articles on FM, this is part 3!)

I dug up an older article about Far East Movement from December of last year. It provided some interesting history about the group before they got big. It is nice to see a group of Asian musicians make it into the mainstream in spite their race. The article details the struggle these guys had to go through. It is clear that their love for music and their fans is what ultimately made them successful.

Things I found interesting:

This pic is old school, it looks like they're out for recess

-Before they were called Far East Movement, they used the name Emcee’s Anonymous to draw attention to their music instead of their race.

-In their earlier performances, they had people throwing fruit at them and people making slant eyes.

-They had spokesman spots for Verizon Wireless and McDonald’s.

-The money they made from doing the Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift soundtrack went into their first music video. I heard they banged each and every one of the chicks. Be jealous. Check out the video below.

-If you were an early FM fan, then you knew the group started with Nish, Prohgress and Spliff. DJ Virman didn’t join the group until 2007.

-FM produced Jin’s “ABC Jin” album.

If there is a lesson to be learned from FM, it is that having a passion and love for whatever you do in life will get you far. These guys have shown that they worked hard before the fame and still continue to do so.

Now it is up to us to support guys like FM and others in our community. Buy their album for yourself, brothers, sisters, girlfriends, boyfriends and enemies(FM’s music is so good it will help to bring peace). Furthermore, pirating their music is not allowed or you will be ostracized from our community. Thanks!

Far East Movement Week Article 2! A Look at the PAST!!

It's Far East Movement week on Asian American TV (please check the links on the right for the rest of FM week), yesterday we talked about their new tour and hope Kev Nish would hook up with La Roux but today, we're going to go way back. Do you guys remember Jin?
There he is, well, way back when, JIN was the King of Asian Hip Hop, in actuality, he was the only guy with any main stream success in Asian Hip Hop after kicking major ass on FreeStyle Friday. Jin became the first Asian MC to be signed to a major record label (Ruff Ryders) which meant he would get music videos, albums, work with big producers, and everything.

Well as we all know, that didn't completely work out the way we hoped it would and Jin ended up moving to Hong Kong to become a big star and then became a Christian Asian Rapper in a place where Christianity is illegal. But I digress, anyways now that you know Jin, I'm going to show you an early video of Jin that he shot with Far East Movement! That's right, when Jin was shooting his second video for Senorita, he took sometime out of his lunch break to shoot ANOTHER video with a very young Far East Movement. It's almost four years ago and you can see all the FM guys just look a tiny bit different (and there's only three of them, we'll do a story on the fourth guy sometime). It's just interesting to watch this video because we all know now, FM has achieved far more than Jin did in the mainstream yet at this point, FM was just a bunch of dreamers with no idea that four years from now, they'd be on top of the world. The video below is just a super awesome time capsule for all of us.

Pretty cool huh! Now you see how much the FM style has changed since then. The FM we see today is nothing like the FM we see here. FM found their own unique style that propelled them to success so I guess what I'm saying is this, for all of you upcoming artists with big dreams, never give up, keep working and maybe you'll get lucky, film a MV with FM in their trailer and then four years later, be an even huger success than them. (in a good way not a "I hope FM fails" way). FM wasn't stubborn in choosing their style, they took time to develop a style and as we can all here now, they've found a truely unique style and thus have given a gift to all of us in the world. FM looked at what audiences liked, and created a style they knew we would enjoy. They didn't stay stubborn and say, "hey you, like our music" they look at the styles that existed, built on it and said "hey you, trust me, you'll like this" and to our Asian Brothers at Far East Movement, yes, thank you very much, we do like it!

Now this girl is pretty fine and she's crazy artistic so I'm hoping that at LEAST ONE OF THE Far East Movement guys will want to hit it. Hopefully she is impressed by their beats and one of them does get to hit it because then they can make some excellent music together.

Don't you guys think, well, I think it so I really hope it happens, they will make beautiful musical children too that can challenge Jay Z and Beyonce's super talented kids.

Does Christine O'Donnell know something about China that you don't?

Basically she said that she had access to classified information that China is planning to invade the U.S. Said information bears suspicious similarities to a stalled Hollywood remake... perhaps the new Red Dawn is prophetic!

Coincidentally, two of the contributors to this blog had roles as background extras in that production. Unfortunately, the majority of the extras and main cast playing Chinese soldiers weren't even Chinese! Will Yun Lee, a Korean-American actor visible towards the lower left hand corner of the picture, plays the main antagonist of the film, Major Lo.

Perhaps the staff here can find reliable employment inflating anti-Chinese sentiment and passing it off to politicians playing the "fear China" card!

Arden Cho is a hot, slutty, suicidal disgrace!

There is no doubt that Arden Cho is beautiful. She is trying to make it into the entertainment industry where her beauty will be fully valued and utilized. Yet even her beauty won’t allow her to get away from the Asian stereotypes that follow her. I watched her reel and noticed some disturbing things. In her most dramatic and longest scenes, she plays a slutty girl who is a disgrace to her family and will sometimes resort to committing suicide. There are three scenes that stood out in my mind.

The first one is from CSI:NY where the cops are investigating a shooting death. Arden is playing the skanky daughter who has a black boyfriend. Her dad discovers her sleeping with her boyfriend in the family apartment. He takes out a gun and tries to shoot the boyfriend for having premarital sex with his daughter. I am guessing that being black also didn’t help the situation, but it is never verbally stated, yet the implication is there. Do you really have to make the Asian dad go overboard by trying to shoot the boyfriend? If they really needed to, then they could have included some John Woo-style action in there. The dad could be diving to his left with two guns firing multiple shots in slow motion. Then change the camera angle to be from the dad’s POV where in slow motion the boyfriend is dodging and running from the bullets that are ripping up the apartment wall. Finally he goes for a daring escape by jumping out the window onto the fire escape where disturbed white doves fly into the air.

The next clip takes place in a hotel room where Arden is in a towel fresh from a shower. She puts a gun to her head and threatens to kill herself. Really? Either get an uglier girl to play the role who should want to kill herself or give Arden something realistic to deal with such as an eating disorder.

The last one is a confrontation between Arden’s character and her mother. The mother feels disgraced by the actions of the daughter. I don’t know the details, but Arden’s character again threatens to kill herself.

Do you see my point? I hope Arden can move away from these roles soon. Obviously it is Hollywood’s problem that it can only see Asians in certain roles and can’t seem to move away from it. They make our cultures seem so oppressive that our beautiful girls have to resort to killing themselves or having to date outside of their own race.

I understand that Hollywood is supposed to be make believe, but I think that it is overkill when you look at what roles are being offered to a hottie like Arden. She could have easily played the characters that Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, or Scarlett Johansson have been. Alright, maybe not Scarlett’s roles because even though Arden's boobs are a nice size, Scarlett's are much larger. Regardless, there is very little hope for other aspiring Asian actresses when a girl like Arden is having such a hard time avoiding being typecast.

Believe me when I say that Arden is a talented actress who can play something else other than the slutty daughter. She can be the slutty reporter, the slutty policewoman, or the slutty prostitute who doesn’t charge extra for anal. When will Hollywood become less narrow minded?

Asian Girl from Social Network: Brenda Song

So this past weekend, arguably the best movie of our generation came out. It was called the Social Network. That's right the FACEBOOK movie was awesome. Anybody who tells you otherwise is an idiot. Seriously, go watch it. Another reason to go watch it is for Brenda Song who plays Eduardo's crazy asian girlfriend. Now as sad as I was to see a beautiful Asian Girl making out with nerdy jewish guy, I was pleased to see that at least they kept her asian.

Brenda Song is smokin and she's crazy too and plays a major part in one of the best scenes in the film. I won't spoil it for you.

Alright, so I'm not going to go copy and paste Brenda's wikipedia for you but she's apparently been in a bunch of shows for kids, oh wait, oh man, how old is she. YOU BETTER BE 18 cuz I don't want this blog putting me in PRISON!

I'm not even going to be witty in this post. Look at Arden just looking at us as she vlogs, she's gotta be the most beautiful asian girl in the world. Why isn't she famous yet? Hmm, I dunno but as long as she's not famous, she still vlog like this so here's to her continued lack of success (not lack of success but lack of super stardom) so I can see her daily vlogs. Wow I'm selfish, but sheesh, that's who I am and Arden will have to like me for who I am. Wait, how did this become about me and Arden. Err, enough for now. For those of you who don't know, KevJumba is on the freaking AMAZING RACE this season. The first episode just showed and it's cool to see KevJumba with real people.

They don't show KevJumba enough on the show, my guess is that is because he's Asian and doesn't get too far on the race. I'm also thinking, with all the running around, KevJumba is too busy trying to win and not be funny.

Hopefully he calms down and gets to make more jokes. I want KevJumba to have a ton of face time.

I hope KevJumba makes out with both of them.

I admit it, I was mos def one of the people who booed when they saw his name in the trailer for Devil. It's just a big joke at how bad he is now.

Ryan Higa is the King of Youtube, thus making him the automatic king of all asians as well as the King of New Media. That's right, Howard Stern maybe the King of Media but Ryan Higa is the King of new media.

How the hell is he so damn popular? I remember first catching him during this "how to be" days (before Youtube took all those videos down) and man did he act stupid. But you know what? He didn't care and I said to myself (because I had no friends around me at the time) This guy's gonna be huge! And now he is. Well technically he's the same size he always was but now with over 2 million subscribers on youtube, he's huge in a technical online sense. Anyways, my point here is, WHY THE HECK is he not on TV? Like seriously? If Ryan Higa was white (*cough* like Fred *cough*) NigaHiga would have his OWN SHOW on the disney channel by now. Seriously, he would, but he's asian and I'm sure some stupid Disney executive is like, nope he's asian, who would want to watch him? So in his defense I've written a letter to the Disney Channel executive in his defense. If any of you know a disney channel executive, please send this to them.

Why are you so dumb? Why have you given Fred his own TV show and not RYAN Higa? (how do I know he'll be fine on disney channel? because unlike the REST of AMERICA, kids aren't AS RACIST as their adult counterparts so if they see something funny, they will probably watch it and not change the channel just because there isn't a white kid on the screen... Grace Park on Hawaii Five - O - Asian American Review

So the whole world has already reviewed this, I know we're a week late so I'll just review from an Asian American perspective. It's great to see Grace Park punch a dude in the face. Sadly (really?) they made the poor girl take her clothes of twice. I get it, TV pilots need naked women but the intro scene wasn't enough for the writers, when she does the undercover sting operation, the gangsta dude asks her to remove her clothes to make sure she's not wearing a bug. SURE DUDE! Last time I tried that, I got punched in the face like the surfer dude pictured here.

Also, Jin from lost is in the show. Daniel Dae Kim. He's also cool and he speaks english. It's the first time in a long time we've seen a guy speak english who was asian on tv.
